According to Yonhap News,
North Gyeongsang Province announced that they had attracted 4,000 Australian tourists thanks to Gyeongbuk Tourism Promotion Center’s efforts to entice tourists by holding tourism seminars in Australia.
As the year 2010 is designated as a visit Korea year, the province sent a Tourism Promotion team led by Kim Dong-hwan, head of the Tourism Industry division, to Australia from May 16th to May 22nd to sell themed tour packages that gives tourists an opportunity to see the real North Gyeongsang province.
The Tourism Promotion team invited representatives of local tour agencies and airlines, organizers of tour packages, and journalists and held a series of tourism seminars in Sidney and Melbourne.
In the seminars, they promoted a variety of programs: a program where tourists visit sanctuaries of Taekwando to learn hwarang(a group created in the Sillar Dynasty that focuses on development of one’s body and mind), a program that visitors can experience Confucianism culture in Andong and Yeongju, and a program where tourists can taste regional food and regional specialties. Those programs went down well with participants, indicating a possible increase in the number of tourists visiting North Gyeongsang.
Kim Dong Hwan, head of the Tourism Industry division, said that “we will entice more foreign tourists from many countries around the world by utilizing an overseas network including overseas branches of Korea Tourism Organization and North Gyeongsang’s overseas offices.”
