According to Yonhap News,
Gyeongju City in North Gyeongsang Province makes an all-out effort to entice tourists from Singapore by undertaking familiarization tours.
The Gyeongju city government said on May 28th that 70 people, including Singaporean journalists and tour agency officials, will visit Shilla Millennium Park, Gyeongju World Culture Expo Park, Daeruengwon, Anapji, Gyeongju National Museum, Seokgulam Grotto and Bulguksa Temple for two days from the 28th.
They went on a familiarization tour after having taken part in Travel Mart held in Lotte Hotel in Busan from May 26th to 27th.
The city government participated with five great hotels in Travel Mart - that had brought in Singaporean outbound companies and domestic inbound travel agencies -to promote Gyeongju’s tourism and introduce a variety of tour programs.
Furthermore, the city took part in 2010 Singapore International Tourism Fair and succeeded in striking about 1,000 contracts for tour packages. The program that the city government conducted a FAM tour for is expected to be on sale since August this year, fueling expectations that there will be an increase in the number of Singaporean visitors to Gyeongju.
“The Singaporean government considers field trips as an important way to train global talents, so they are paying 90 percent of the expenses for field trips for students and providing incentives to high-performing schools,” said Lee Gang-woo, head of the Culture and Tourism department. “If we continue our marketing efforts, I am certain that we will achieve a substantial feat.”
